Abstract
1395287 Grain sorter and huller T SATAKE 5 April 1973 16461/73 Heading A2Q Apparatus for separating a mixture of hulled and unhulled grain and hulling the unhulled component comprises (a) a sorting pan 1 with a rough sloping surface 3, (b) a grain supply opening 15 in the upper edge H of the pan, (c) an outlet 5 for hulled grain in the lower edge L of the pan, (d) an outlet 7 for unhulled grain, (e) an outlet 6 for mixed hulled and unhulled grain, (f) means (not shown) for reciprocating said surface in an obliquely upward direction at right angles to the slope, (g) a lateral vibratory conveyor 22 positioned to receive unhulled grain from outlet 7 and rigidly attached to the pan 1, so as to .be reciprocated by said reciprocating means and (h) hulling means (not shown) positioned to receive unhulled grain from an outlet 25 of said vibratory conveyor. In the embodiment shown, untreated grain is passed through the huller, the mixture of hulled and unhulled grain issuing from the huller is separated into three streams, the stream of hulled grain is discharged, the stream of unhulled grain is returned to the huller and the stream of mixed hulled and unhulled grain is returned to the sorter. Untreated grain is fed from hopper 27, via gate 29 to vibratory conveyor 22. Here it passes over gauze 24 Which retains any straw refuse. The grain passes through gauze 24 and is fed via outlet 25 to a huller (48, Fig 7, not shown). The mixture of hulled and unhulled grain issuing from the huller is raised by a bucket elevator (52, Fig 7) to hopper 4. Hopper 4 may move up and down, being biased upwards but moving downwards when full of grain. When full of grain, its downward movement automatically closes gate 29 on hopper 27. From hopper 4, the grain is sorted on surface 3 into 3 streams. Hulled grain issuing from outlet 5 is fed by vibrating conveyor 16 to perforated plate 18 which retains the hulls and discharges them down chute 20. 'The hulled grains pass through plate 18 and are discharged by chute 19. The stream of unhulled grain issuing from outlet 7 is returned to vibratory conveyor 22 and thence to the huller. The stream of mixed hulled and unhulled grain entering opening 6 is returned via outlet 21 to the foot of the bucket elevator and thence to the sorting pan 1.
