877,555. Gauging departure from standard form. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1957 [Sept. 25, 1956], No. 29320/56. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A roundness measuring machine comprises a vertical spindle mounted in fluid bearings (see Group XXXIV) and a gauging pick-up 32, carried in radial V guides in the end of the spindle, having a controlling stylus 34 which is spring-urged into contact with a test piece aligned with the spindle so that as the spindle is rotated the stylus moves round the periphery of the test piece and the pick-up provides a signal indicative of the roundness of the test piece. The stylus 34 is mounted at one end of a pivoted arm 35, the other end of which carries a disc 37 which is located in front of a measuring jet nozzle 38 carried by a pivoted holder 39. Adjustment of the gap at the jet can be made by means of a ball-ended screw 41 which controls the position of the carrier 39.
