892,172. Linear-dimension gauges; indicating-apparatus. DECKEL, F. W. Nov. 13, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 38530/59. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). [Also in Group XXII] A measuring device with a holder 10 adapted to be inserted in the spindle 12 of a machine tool supports a scanning lever 22 rotating with the spindle 12 and a dial gauge 30 kept stationary for ease of reading, the casing of the dial gauge including magnets 36 and being surrounded by magnets 40 mounted in a fixed part 38. The dial gauge 30 is mounted on a bearing 16b and is actuated by a lever system 22, 24, 26. Adjustment of zero is effected by use of a screw 16a which bears against a spring plate 32 carrying the pivots 28 of the lever 26. The dial gauge is surrounded by a hollow transparent cylinder made of a magnetically neutral material. Surrounding this is a carrier 38 in which are inserted several permanent magnets 40 of alternating polarity, this carrier being held in position by an adjustable arm 42a connected to a fixed part of the machine tool. In other embodiments, the permanent magnets 40 may be replaced by electromagnets.
