Abstract

874,873. Lifting devices for engaging articles. PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC CO. Feb. 8, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 4410/60. Class 78 (4). A pin 1, Fig. 1, is automatically engaged as it is lowered into a hub 2 of a member 4 so that a load 27 may be lifted. The pin 1 is disengaged by lowering it further into the hub 2 to trip the pin-engaging mechanism and then withdrawing it. More rods 7 may be used than the three shown. Adjustable arms 10 hold a load 27 on lower member 8. Conical end 13, Fig. 2, engages bars 14 carried by bell-cranks 15 pivoted at 16. As the pin 1 is pushed further through the hub 2 a shoulder 19, Fig. 5, depresses bars 14 and levers 23 pivot about pins 24 to hold bars 14 in their depressed position. The pin 1 may now be withdrawn, during which movement levers 23 are raised by a shoulder 26 allowing bars 14 to return to their horizontal position. U.S.A. Specification 2,954,789 is referred to.
