Class 78 (iv)] Apparatus for lifting bottles comprises a frame 4 to which are secured guide sleeves 1 which are adapted accurately to determine the position of the bottles relatively to each other and in relation to slidably movable gripping arms 3 adapted to co-operate with fixed projections 2 or further gripping arms, not shown, to clamp the bottles. Guide sleeves 1 are conical underneath the frame and taper upwardly into a cylindrical portion in which projections 2 may be formed integrally, so that on movement of arms 3 the bottles, shown in chain lines, are alternately retained and released. An abutment 5 limits the height of the bottle head. A number of series of guide sleeves and gripping means may be arranged to be operated by a power lifting device.
