Abstract

799,176. Gripping pipes and tubes internally. AKTIEBOLAGET HOGANASMETODER. Feb. 11, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 4586/57. Class 78 (4). Each of several shoes 42 which can be pushed outwardly to engage the inside of a tube 50 to be lifted is carried by one or more links 38 pivoted to a central stem 10 and by a link 46 pivoted to a sleeve 14 sliding on the stem 10 and movable, when a latch 18 has been released, to engage the shoes 42 with the tube 50 to be lifted so that the force in the link 38 maintains the shoes in contact with the tube. In the construction illustrated the latch 18 normally engages the end of a slot 16 in the sleeve 14 and is released by a handle 22 against the bias of a spring 24. When the tube is set down on the ground a foot 32 pushes a rod 28 up through the stem 10 so that pins 26 on its upper end engage a slot 30 in the sleeve 14 to raise the sleeve and permit the latch 18 to re-engage it in the position in which the shoes 42 are retracted. The shoes 42 may be faced with felt.
