Abstract

1,131,531. Devices for lifting rolls of paper. H. F. DALGLISH. 12 Sept., 1967 [15 Sept., 1966], No. 41578/67. Heading B8H. To lift a roll of paper a device A, Fig. 2, is inserted into the central hole of the roll until a collar 49 abuts the side of the roll. An upward pull on the lifting ring 21 causes the body portion 10 to move upwards relative to a sleeve 12 thus causing jaws 36, Fig. 6, which project slightly through windows 35 in the sleeve, to be pivoted by the sleeve about their apices 44. This causes the corners 47 of the jaws to project further and engage the inside of the roll enabling the latter to be lifted. When the roll is set down the jaws are retracted by resilient rings 43. The jaws may be locked in this position by a spring-loaded pin which engages a hole 51 Fig. 2, to prevent relative movement between the body 10 and sleeve 12, and is withdrawn by a solenoid 53.
