[Also in Group XXXI] A fan V and/or dynamo and a servo-steering system LZ in a motor vehicle are connected in series in an hydraulic driving system and supplied by a common pump. A pump P supplies fluid through a pipe D1 to a motor M1 driving the fan V or dynamo. The pump and motor may be of the axial-piston type and one or other may be adjustable. The output from the motor is connected to a valve L controlling the fluid supply to the steering cylinder LZ return flow from the cylinder passing through the valve to a tank O which may be open or closed and the oil fed to the pump by compressed air or an auxiliary pump. A valve RV may by-pass or throttle fluid from the pump to the steering system at a regulated pressure controlled by a temperature-responsive element in a cooling medium. In the event of the steering system applying a sudden load on the driving system to starve the motor, the flywheel effect of the fan, or of the rotor of the dynamo, reduces the pressure requirements of the motor and may cause the motor to act as a pump. The fluid from the pump may be supplied first to the steering system and then to the fan or dynamo.
