Abstract

791,903. Motor-vehicle hydraulic driving gear. ROVER CO., Ltd. Nov. 7,1955 [Nov. 9, 1954], No. 32358/54. Class 79(2) A road vehicle driving system comprises an engine b, engine-driven gearing (including a change speed gear c) for actuating one pair of ground wheels a, an engine-driven pump f supplying hydraulic motors e for actuating another pair of ground wheels d and a driver-operable valve g for controlling the hydraulic motors. As further shown in Fig. 1 the valve g in its closed position directs liquid from the pump through a by-pass pipe h The liquid supply and return pipes for the motors e are interconnected by a pipe i having a non-return valve j to give a free wheel effect for the wheels d. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the hydraulic motors e are connected in parallel with the pump and are controlled by two driver-operable valves whereby practically the whole available hydraulic torque can be applied to one of the associated ground wheels, by-pass valves being provided to enable the motors to serve as brakes.
