Abstract

1288508 Hydrostatic transmissions ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 15 Jan 1970 [16 Jan 1969] 1939/70 Heading B7H A motor vehicle, especially a tractor, having an hydrostatic wheel drive on the front axle and a mechanically driven rear axle has a threeposition valve 16 which provides a connection between the hydrostatic circuit and atmosphere when the vehicle is travelling at high speed, e.g., on the road. The hydrostatic transmission is put into operation only when it is necessary to apply more tractive effort. An internal combustion engine 2 drives the rear axle 4 and an adjustable hydraulic pump 5 which supplies hydraulic motors 7, 8 driving front wheels 7, 8 through reduction gears 9, 10. When the valve 16 is in the position II, as shown, a line 23 communicating with the atmosphere in a reservoir is connected to a line 15 while a line 24 is connected to a line 25 and a line 27 is connected to a line 27<SP>1</SP> having a throttle 28. Line 27<SP>1</SP> is connected to a line 18 between a pump 19 and pump 6 and supplies a cooling circuit 26 for pressure medium. In the position I of the valve 16, pump 6 supplies motors 7, 8 through lines 17 and 15, and pressure medium returns to reservoir 21 by lines 25 and 24. In the position III, reverse direction of the motors 7, 8 is produced for reverse travel of the vehicle. Alternatively, the rear wheels may be driven by an hydrostatic transmission, the front axle may be the main drive axle, or the hydrostatic transmission may be used in vehicles having more than two axles.
