Abstract

1284984 Hydraulic auxiliary drives DAIMLER-BENZ AG 10 Feb 1970 [15 Feb 1969] 6349/70 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A commercial vehicle such as a lorry or tractor/trailer combination has an adjustablestroke hydrostatic pump 6 for acting as a brake on the wheels of a normally non-driven axle 5, a pressure circuit also being provided to which the pump 6 is connectable to operate as an hydraulic motor for providing auxiliary, emergency drive to the axle 5. The pump 6 is connected through gearing 7 with the two wheels of the axle 5. The pressure circuit includes a constant stroke pump 12 which also serves hydraulically assisted steering means and which is connected to the vehicle engine 11 or to a power take off shaft, actuation of a valve 16 allows the pump 12 to be connected with the pump 6 via supply and return lines 14, 15 respectively. A separate hydrostatic pump 6 may be provided in the hub of each wheel to be braked, and a braking circuit of the pump includes a cooler 9, and a pressure limiting valve 8, the hydrostatic braking being achieved by adjustment of the stroke of pump 6 by a valve 13 which connects pressure from pump 12 to the stroke adjustment means of pump 6.
