1356137 Vehicle steering mechanism; driving auxiliary apparatus INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO 7 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 57432/72 Divided out of 1356136 Heading B7H A vehicle comprises front and rear engines 400, 402, front and rear axles 92, 292 having wheels 94, 294 turned by power steering rams 116, 316, first and second pumps 404, 406 driven by one engine 400, and third and fourth pumps 420, 422 driven by the other engine, the first and third pumps 404, 420 supplying the steering rams 116 on one axle and the second and fourth pumps 406, 422 supplying the steering rams 316 on the other axle so that both axles are steerable when either engine is operating. Check valves 414, 418, 430, 434 prevent flow of fluid between the pumps 404, 420 and between the pumps 406, 422. Fluid from the pumps is directed to selected ends of the rams 116, 316 by control valves 110, 310 actuated by sensing cylinders 100, 300 supplied with pressure fluid by a steering system which enables the vehicle to be steered in two wheel, four wheel and crab steering modes from control stations at both ends of the vehicle as described in Specification 1,356,136.
