Abstract
873,921. Rope grips. SHIELDS, H. F. H., and DRAG SCRAPER & CONVEYOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 5, 1959 [July 5, 1958; Aug. 11, 1958], Nos. 14376/58 and 25754/58. Class 78(2). The rope grip 12 (Fig. 2) is tightened over the sleeve 11 secured to moving rope 10 by means of nut 22, the nut working on extension 21 of the grip, which extension is threaded. The grip is provided with wheel 24 and carries rotatable sleeve 15, which sleeve carries load carrier 18 on a pivot extending parallel to the rope 10, thus the load carrier is suspended by a form of universal joint. The rope is normally supported by pulley 27. To get round a bend in the horizontal plane the wheel support 29 is curved upwards so that the grip tips over and can pass around a guiding pulley 31 (not shown) with carrier 18 engaging laterally the pulley. Rope grip 52 (Fig. 5), which is driven by collars 55 (not shown) fixed on ropes 43 supported by pulleys 63, 64, is carried by rollers 70 and is connected by pivot 51 to member 60 which is pivoted to load carrier 61. The grip 52 may therefore be twisted through 90 degrees to engage pulley 67 (not shown) and pass round it in the horizontal plane. Alternatively, the chain 50 may be connected directly to grip 52.
