Abstract
873,513. Circuits for loud-speakers. BOSE, A. G. July 30, 1957 [Aug. 6, 1956], No. 12712/61. Divided out of 873,511. Class 40 (4). An array of closely-spaced loud-speakers is driven over a compensation network which extends their range by providing a boost at low frequencies. The network may also provide a boost to extend the range at high frequencies. The loud-speakers are distributed over the surface of a spherical surface as described in Specification 873,511. Fig. 8 shows a circuit that passes the audio range with boost at high and low frequencies. Valves V1 and V2 provide the low frequency boost by virtue of capacitors 50 shunted by resistors 51 in the anode circuits which present high impedance at low frequency. Valves V3 and V4 provide the high frequency boost by virtue of cathode circuits containing capacitors 55 shunted by resistors 56 presenting a low impedance or high frequency. The inter-valve coupling of capacitor 63 shunted by resistor 64 increases the high frequency boost. The output of the network may be applied to a cathode follower before being applied to preamplifier and power amplifier stages. The loud-speakers are connected in phase and in series or parallel or in seriesparallel. In place of a separate network compensation may be integrated in the design of the preamplifier and/or the power amplifier.
