Abstract

873,356. Insulators; cable end terminations. ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION Ltd. June 8, 1959 [June 12, 1958], No. 18822/58. Class 36. Insulators or bushings as in Specification 702,608 are modified by providing an interference fit between component members so as to provide the major part of the force exerted between them to resist their separation when they are urged in opposite directions, the yieldable sealing rings providing only a minor part of this force. The invention is also applied to a cable sealing end, as shown, wherein the open-ended insulator 40 is provided with metal end caps 42, each having an interference fit on the member 40 and a yieldable neoprene ring 55 therebetween. Cushioning gaskets 56 are provided, as shown. The lead cable sheath 45 is secured to the lower cap 42 by solder 44, and the cable core 48 is soldered to a copper ferrule 50 which is clamped within a closed copper sleeve 52 constituting an extension of the top end cap 42 to which it is welded at 53. A tapped opening 58 is provided in the lower end cap 42 for entry of a dielectric such as oil.
