Abstract

870,744. Protective helmets; laces. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. Aug. 4, 1959, No. 26585/59. Classes 43 and 63 [Also in Group XXXIV] A force absorbing lace L connecting the cradle straps 4 of a protective-hat lining 2 is formed from two long flexible elements 6 and 7 disposed parallel to each other with their adjacent ends 8 tightly secured together; one element 7 having less tensile strength than the other so that if the lace is suddenly strained it breaks whilst the other 6, which is elongatable stretches. The element 7 is a cord inside the element 6 which is tubular and the ends of the two elements may be secured together by knotting or by clips. The lace is formed in a loop to connect the cradle straps by knotting.
