849,419. Stowage for inflatable craft. FRANKENSTEIN & SONS (MANCHESTER) Ltd., F., and SMITH, R. S. June 15, 1959 [June 20, 1958], No. 19760/58. Class 115. In a rigid life raft or like stowage comprising two identical or similar members 12 moulded in a hard non-metallic material (such as resinated glass fibre) and secured edge-to-edge (at 22) by means of encircling metal bands 25 to form a cylindrical enclosure, each band has two gaps (one shown in Fig. 5 and the other in Fig. 6) respectively spanned by a tensioning bolt or screw 30 and a double-headed connector 36 of a relatively rupturable nature. The connector (which has a weak section 39) is of dumb-bell shape, the associated ends of the band 25 being each wrapped around a pin 27 which is slotted to admit the waist of the connector and has a part-spherical socket to receive the adjacent head 37 of the latter. Fabric straps 17, 18 anchored to the interior of one of the members 12 are securable together by a weak thread 19 passed through eyelets 20 at their free ends to locate the stowed craft. Further security against undesirable movement of the stowed craft is obtained by lining the stowage with a soft cushioning material 16 such as expanded polystyrene.
