A portable battery lamp comprises a casing containing an electric battery, a reflector casing and bracket means connecting the reflector casing to the battery casing or to a structure connected thereto, e.g. the handle on the battery casing, the reflector casing being mounted on the bracket means so as to be capable of partial rotation and the bracket means being mounted on the battery casing or the structure by means permitting partial rotation thereof with respect to the casing or structure, the axes of rotation of the reflector casing and bracket means being at right angles to one another. In one form, the battery casing 1 is provided with a domed top 4 of glass or synthetic resin which may be coloured, a bulb being mounted beneath the dome, and a handle 5 carried in cups 7 on opposite sides of the casing and having undulating edges providing a series of notches 9 whereby the handle may be held in a number of positions. The casing 1 carries a base plate 22 supporting the base of a bracket 17 between the arms of which is pivotally mounted a reflector casing 10 in which is a second electric bulb. The casing 10 has an aperture 15 for the passage of a wire connecting the bulb to the battery. The base plate 22 has an arcuate groove engaging a projection on the base of the bracket to limit the rotation of the latter to less than 360 degrees. In a modification (Fig. 8, not shown) the reflector casing is similarly mounted on the handle of a block shaped battery casing, a pivoted arm bearing a second lamp being mounted on the handle adjacent the base plate for the bracket carrying the reflector casing.
