An electric hand lamp comprises a battery casing 10 having a hinged lid 11 on which a reflector head 23 containing a bulb 25 is mounted, an arm 28. pivoted to the lid for movement in a vertical plane and carrying at the end remote from the pivot a coloured, e.g. red, translucent cover 31 containing a second bulb 29 and switch means 20, 30 whereby the bulbs 25, 29 respectively may be controlled. The casing may contain a battery made up of four cells 17 in series. A carrying handle 27 may be mounted on the lid 11. The arm 28 may consist of two parallel bars connected at their outer ends to support the cover 31 and switch 30. The bulb 29 may be of the bimetallic type to produce an intermittent flash. The head 23 may be mounted on a forked bracket 26.
