Abstract

869,938. Heating metal by induction and passage of current. MAGNETIC HEATING CORPORATION. Aug. 29, 1958 [Aug. 29, 1957], No. 27886/58. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXII] In welding together the opposed edges of elongated metal portions advanced past a welding point, the edges are preheated by an inductor 14 Fig., 2 as disclosed in Specification 772,398 and current of at least 100 kilocycles per second supplied to the portions by fluidcooled contacts 25, 26 returns via a fluidcooled conductor 31 extending above the edges. The current is concentrated by magnetic members 35 or 36. An alternative form of coil comprises an upper turn 40, 41 Fig. 3 above the portions and a lower turn 42, 43 below the portions. Specifications 748,528, 851,528, 851,530, 869,336 and 869,337 also are referred to.
