Abstract

864,748. Fuel injectors. ROVERE, V. Nov. 13, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 38509/59. Class 75(1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A pump for supplying fuel to an injector nozzle 12c, Fig. 1, comprises a solenoid 4b whose armature 5 reciprocates a piston 2 which is a fluid-tight sliding fit within the working chamber 3 of the pump. When the solenoid is energised, the armature is driven towards the piston 2, compressing spring 6, moving piston 2 against the action of spring 10, compressing fuel in chamber 3 to open ball valve 11 and allow fuel to pass to the nozzle 12e. When the solenoid is deenergised, springs 11b, 10, 6 return the ball valve, piston and armature to the position shown. The chamber 3 is fed with fuel from a pipe 8 through a non-return valve 9, and a safety valve 14 is provided to ensure that pressure in chamber 3 does not exceed a predetermined magnitude. Screws 13, 14g enable adjustment of stroke of armature and setting of safety valve. In a modification, solenoid 4b is modified to be operated by A.C., Fig 1a (not shown).
