Abstract

783,406. Fuel injection pumps. BOSCH GES., R. April 30, 1956 [May 4, 1955], No. 13127/56. Class 102(1). A combined fuel injection pump and distributer comprises a single hollow piston 14 adapted to be reciprocated and rotated by a member 7 which is rotated by a shaft 2 and has a four lift cam track 6 engaged by rollers 5 on pins 4 mounted in a housing 1. A groove 46 in the piston 14 distributes fuel to four outlets 45. The piston 14 is hollow and accommodates the stem 20 of a valve 21 which seats on the head of the piston under the influence of a spring 22. The piston hollow and underside of the valve 21 communicates with an inlet duct 36. A transverse pin 27 through the other end of the stem 20 passes through slots 28 in the piston 14 and is surrounded by a stop sleeve 29 having a shoulder 30 engageable therewith ; a pin 31 passing through the sleeve 29 engages a heloical groove 32 in the cylinder body 13 ; the sleeve 29 is angularly adjustable by means of a rack 34 to adjust the axial position of the shoulder 30. During the final part of the suction stroke the pin 27 engages the shoulder 30 which holds the inlet valve 21 open and continues to do so during the first part of the stroke in the pressure direction ; adjustment of the rack 34 varies the time during which the inlet valve is held open. In a modification a by-pass valve from the pump chamber is opened mechanically by the head of the valve 21 towards the end of the pressure stroke.
