Abstract

628,132. Injection pumps. PESCARA, R. P. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31283. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1945. [Class 102(i)] In an accumula tor injection sys tem, a closure member of a valve is interposed bet ween the accumu lator chamber and the injector and is actuated either directly or indirectly by the plunger of the pump that feeds the chamber. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the accumulator chamber 6 has an accumulator piston 7 and is fed with liquid by a pump piston 1 through a spring-loaded valve 9 that is mounted in a valve 13 that is opened by contact with the piston 1 to allow liquid to flow from the chamber 6 through channel 14 and passages 15, 12 to the injector. The edge 2 on the piston controls the amount delivered to the space 6 which is also fitted with a relief valve 10. The accumulator piston engages an intermediate member 20 loaded by a spring 7a and in addition air under pressure may be supplied to the chamber 24. In a modification, the valve 9 is omitted and the valve 13 is opened when the piston 1 almost contacts it by the liquid pressure developed in the pump cylinder. The valve may be opened by a member rigidly attached to the piston or by a liquid pressure developed by this member.
