Abstract
864,733. Collapsible caravans. HARRIS LEBUS Ltd. Oct, 7, 1959 [Oct. 7, 1958], No. 32002/58. Class 108(1). A collapsible caravan comprises a body part 10, Fig. 1, hinged at 12 to a wheeled body part 11, and having side walls 19 joined by walls 21, 22. In the expanded position, Fig. 3, the wall 21 forms a continuation of the roof 15 and the draw bars 23 are released from their brackets 24 beneath the body part 11 to pivot with; the body part 10 and form with legs 31 a forward end support. Triangular panels 26 of wood or metal hinged at 27 are provided to close the gap between the body parts, and a bottom 29 and sides 30 of canvas which may be lifted into the caravan body by a winch or rope are also provided. In a modification the gap between the parts 10, 11 may be closed by a canvas curtain provided with a retractable well portion such as 29, 30, and a slit entrance. In a further modification the means for closing the gap may be constructed to provide a lean-to type of structure supported by ridge and end poles and guy ropes. In another embodiment, the side walls of the parts 10, 11 overlap one another when the caravan is collapsed, the edges being adjacent to one another when the caravan is expanded.
