Abstract

926,222. Collapsible caravans. C. H. PERKINS. Nov. 4, 1960 [Nov. 4, 1959; May 19, 1960], Nos. 37351/59 and 17623/60. Class 108(1). A caravan which may be partially or wholly collapsed for towing, comprises a base, I shaped side members 12 hinged along the sides of the base and provided with integral end panels 15, horizontally extendable support members 16 rectangular frames 25 hinged to the top edge of each member 12, and a canvas cover forming the roof which may be laid over the frames and secured to studs 29 on the sides by rubber rings 28. In the wholly collapsed position the frames 25 are pivoted down to be contained within the members 12 which lie as shown in Fig 6, but in the partially collapsed position the frames are pivoted down and supported by the base to hold the members 12 as shown on the right of Fig. 7, and a weatherproof strip is secured over the ridge. End walls with windows and doors, and collapsible frame members 30 may be provided. The side members 12 in their fully collapsed position may have offset lower edges, Fig. 4 (not shown) which overlap adjacent members to form weather seals.
