Abstract

Class 40(5) [Also in Group XL(b)] In a television receiver, the cathode-ray tube 3 is retained within a support 9 disposed at the screen end of the tube, and the support is mounted by spacing pieces (not shown) in a cabinet 5 so constructed as to leave a space or spaces 10 between the support and the side walls of the cabinet at or near their front edges, the space or spaces providing an opening or openings into the cabinet extending over at least two sides, and as illustrated in the preferred arrangement on all sides, of the tube screen and being utilized to accommodate or form part of sound reproducing means. Loudspeakers may be mounted either within the space, as indicated at 6, or in the front opening of the space, as indicated at 7. Alternatively loudspeakers 14A mounted at any convenient position within the cabinet may be coupled to the space by sound guides 14 so that the space functions as a sound reproducing cavity or waveguide. Support 9 is lined with sponge plastic or felt. The cathoderay tube may also be supported by a chassis. The space is closed at the front by a mask 4 provided with openings, louvres or slots and formed separately or integrally with the transparent mask 2 for the tube. A number of subordinate constructional features including the mounting of components and chassis in the cabinet are discussed.
