Abstract

735,402. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and NIXON, R. D. July 23, 1954 [July 23, 1953], No. 20501/53. Class 40 (3). In a television receiver having one or more loud-speakers for the reproduction of accompanying sound signals the speaker(s) is/are mounted within the cabinet to the rear of the bulb portion of the cathode-ray tube with the diaphragm(s) facing away from and in a direction perpendicular to the tube axis and sound directing means is included for directing sound from the speaker(s) through one or more apertures in the front face of the cabinet adjacent of the screen of the cathode-ray tube. Figs. 1-3, show one embodiment in which a single loud-speaker 8 is mounted above an aperture 7 in a partition 6 which divides the cabinet 1 into an upper and a lower portion, the latter communicating with the outside of the cabinet by means of an aperture 12 in the front face thereof. Sounds produced by the speaker are directed to this aperture by means of a reflector 11 mounted at 45 degrees to the vertical and two " side-wall pieces 9 which may be straight as shown, or may, alternatively, be cured outwards towards the aperture. The whole arrangement may be positioned at one side of the cabinet (instead of at the bottom) and a second similar arrangement employing a second loud-speaker may, if desired, be positioned at the opposite side.
