Abstract
749,183. Television receivers. PYE, Ltd. Dec. 2, 1953 [Dec. 2, 1952], No. 30534/52. Class 40 (3). The facing surfaces at the front edges of the side walls 1b, 1c which define the viewing aperture 2 of a television receiver cabinet are formed with slightly curved slots 3 into which is slid a sheet of flexible transparent material 4, preferably a synthetic resin material, forming an implosion guard for the cathode-ray tube. The sheet is inserted through a slot 5 in the base of the cabinet, and the lower front 1d of the cabinet below aperture 2 is provided with apertures 6 through which control members (not shown) for the receiver extend, the arrangement being such that the receiver chassis or at least some of the receiver components must be removed before the implosion guard can be withdrawn. The sheet is retained in position by one or more brackets 9 engaging its lower edge and is also gripped at its upper end by reduced portions 3a formed in slots 3. At least one of brackets 9 also serves for holding a loudspeaker 8 in position. The centre of curvature of slots 3 is at a point slightly below the level of the centre of the viewing aperture so that the implosion guard, apart from being concave, is also inclined slightly forwardly to reduce undesirable reflections from external light sources.
