Abstract
862,626. Motor assisted bicycles. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Dec. 1, 1958 [Nov. 29, 1957], No. 38678/58. Class 79(3). A motor 2 is pivoted at 4 to the frame 1 of a bicycle and the tyre-engaging roller 8, fast with a pulley 7 is mounted upon a crank arm 10 pivoted at 9 and is urged into contact with the tyre by a spring 11. The pulley is driven from the motor by a belt 6, which is kept taut by a spring device 14 pivoted to the frame which urges the motor away from the rear wheel. The roller may be disengaged from the wheel by a link 19 and lever 17 or by direct manipulation of an. extension of the upper member of the crank 10. The spring device 14 may be replaced by a fixed arm pivoted to the frame or by a spring-extended telscopic member connected to the motor and the crank 10. The driving pulley of the motor may be of continuously variable diameter, the belt being Vee shaped. In a modification, Fig. 5, disengagement of the tyre-engaging roller is effected by rotating the motor 2 by a handle 26. In this embodiment there is no spring member acting upon the motor.
