Abstract

861,763. Cycle driving gear. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. July 25, 1957 [July 25, 1956], No. 23617/57. Classes 79(2) and 79(3). A hollow arm 11 encloses two stages of reduction of a chain transmission from the motor 2 of an autocycle, a separate chain transmission from the pedals being arranged outside the arm 11. The arm is resiliently suspended from the frame and pivotally connected by two anti-friction sleeves 17, 18 to a hollow axle 16 in which the pedal spindle 6 is mounted on further anti-friction sleeves 19, 20, the spindle being connected By a chain wheel 7, a chain 8 and a' free wheel 9 with the rear wheel 10. Expanding pulleys 4, 5 and a belt 3 connect the motor 2 to a spindle 23 baving a sprocket 24 connected by a chain 26 to a chain wheel 25 to form the first stage of the reduction drive. The second stage is formed by a sprocket 28 which is rigidly connected to the chain wheel 25 and by a chain 29 to a chain wheel 30. To enable the drive from the motor to be disconnected from the back wheel, the wheel 30 may be, displaced axially against the pressure of a spring 42 so that teeth on its inner periphery are withdrawn from engagement with teeth on a member secured 'to the back axle. The wheel 30 is locked in its operative and inoperative positions by a pivoted plate 51 having a slot to engage one of a pair of recesses in a rod 47 and an enlargement at the end of the slot to allow the rod to be moved. The rod 47 has a handle 53 and is connected to the wheel 30 by a fork 46. In a modified construction, the arm 11 is Divoted to the frame at a point rearward of the pedal spindle and is connected 'to a second arm to form a fork for the rear wheel 10. The belt drive is of fixed ratio and the chain wheel 10 may be permanently connected to the rear wheel 10. A casing may be provided for the chain 8. Specification 861,764 is referred to.
