Abstract

860,654. Fuel injection pumps. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. April 2, 1959 [April 11, 1958], No. 11169/59. Class 102(1). A fuel injection pump comprises a rotating drive shaft 2 connected to a driven member 21 through a coupling 4. The coupling 4 is screwed into the member 21, which is prevented from moving axially relative to the pump casing and the coupling 4 is received in a cylindrical extension 3 of the drive shaft and is prevented from rotating relatively to the shaft by a member 18. The coupling 4 is loaded in one direction by a spring 5 and in the other direction by the delivery of a feed pump 11 which delivers liquid through an inlet 9, groove 8 and port 7 to the cylinder space 6. As the speed of the engine increases so the pressure in the cylinder 6 increases and the coupling 4 is moved against the spring 5 to vary the relative angular position between the shaft 2 and the driven member 21 to vary the timing of injection. The driven member 21 is provided with a groove to receive the cylinders 30 of a combined cylinder block and distributer member 31. The cylinders house at least one piston 33 actuated by a stationary cam 27. The member 31 is urged into contact with the member 18 by a spring loading 40. The feed pump 11 delivers to the pumping chamber 34 through an adjustable throttle valve 47.
