Abstract

914,532. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. June, 5, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No. 21821/60. Class 102(1). In a fuel injection pump comprising a rotary distributor body housing at least one transverse piston reciprocated by an annular cam 5, rotation of cam 5 to vary the timing is effected by a piston 1 and piston-valve 7 responsive to fuel pressure from a feed pump. The cam is held in its retarded position while the engine is started and moved to its advanced position after a given engine speed has been attained. The feed pump delivery pressure is dependent on engine speed and acts on valve 7 via passage 8 to move piston 1 against spring 4. At the given engine speed parts 10 in valve 7 are uncovered thereby exposing piston 1 to the feed pump pressure. On reduction of engine speed, fuel trapped by piston 1 returns to the feed pump inlet via passages 11, 12 and 13.
