Abstract

860,593. Ammunition cartridges. GRONN, K. March 23, 1959 [Nov. 3, 1958], No. 9961/59. Class 9(1). A case for a blank cartridge comprises an outer sleeve 1 of light metal, e.g. aluminium and an inner sleeve 2 of artificial resin, the outer sleeve being shrunk on to a head piece 3. A cup 21 of synthetic plastic is fitted into the base of the cartridge and closes the flash passage from the cap chamber in the head 3. Extensions 5, 6 of the tubes 1, 2 are bullet-shaped, the outer extension 5 being closed and provided with fracture lines. Alternatively the forward closure may be provided by the extension 6. In Fig. 3, the cup 21 is omitted and the sleeve 2 extended to fit within a tubular extension 4 of the head 3. The tube 1 is pressed into a groove 7 in the head 3 and the extension 6 omitted. The sleeve 2, Fig. 5, may have a stepped end engaging a groove in the head 3 and the imitation bullet is a hollow metal member 81 similarly attached to the forward end of the composite tube 1, 2. In live ammunition the member 81 is replaced by a bullet.
