Abstract
1,228,204. Practice projectiles. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 6 Sept., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 42656/68. Heading F3A. A practice projectile comprises a projectile body 2 having an axial bore extending throughout its length, and a discardable nose, e.g. of plastics material, having a core 3, the nose having an asymmetrical cross-section in relation to its longitudinal axis and/or a rearwardly open annular cavity 4 defined by the core 3 and a rupturable wall 5. The nose is rendered asymmetrical by means of a bore 8 and is a snap-fit on the projectile body 2. The core 3 may be hollow and the wall 5 of the nose can be strengthened with radial ribs. Upon firing, propellant gases cause the nose to be discarded by the projectile body whereupon the asymmetry of the nose causes the latter to be diverted from the trajectory of the projectile body and/or the propellant gases cause the wall 5 and core 3 to rupture to produce particles of shorter range than the projectile body.
