Abstract
859,516. Preparing ores. Magnetic separators. EMSCHER AUFBEREITUNG G.m.b.H. July 21, 1958, No. 23377/58. Classes 82(1) and 117 The valuable components of sludges are separated from waste by wet-mechanical and/or wet-magnetic separation by adding water or solids till the sludge has a solid content of 300-500 grams per litre, homogenizing, and feeding to the separator at a controlled rate in a homogeneous state. As shown, sludge container 1 has a rotatable valve and mixer 3 with vanes 4 and below it there is a roller 10 with a diametrical slot 11 through which sludge 13 flows over the full working width of the double drum magnetic separator. It is first subjected to magnetic field 15 and particles which adhere to the drum are removed by rinsing device 17 into discharge device 18 while the remaining sludge flows to the following separator and into the range of magnetic field 19. Magnetic and non-magnetic material are separated at 22 and 23 respectively. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a single belt magnetic separator is used, in a further alternative (Fig. 5, not shown) the sludge is pretreated by belts of permanent magnets above and below a stream of sludge which move along with the stream to cause the magnetic particles to agglomerate prior to separation by drum separator, and a further alternative (Fig. 6, not shown). comprises a single moving belt of permanent magnets above the stream of sludge which both agglomerates and separates the pretreated fraction. The sludge may be heated to above 30‹C. prior to separation and fixed permanent magnets may be used for pre-treatment
