Abstract
910,476. Magnetic separation. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. March 21, 1960 [April 8, 1959], No. 9928/60. Class 117. The drum 1 of a magnetic separator is rotatable on a shaft 4 on which are secured pole piece members 5. The drum is rotated by belt and pulley and the position of the polepiece members is adjustable by a screwed rod 11 connected to a tank 13. A weir 21 co-operates with the drum and an overflow weir 14 is also provided; both weirs are adjustable. The tank is fed from a number of feed-channels 17 connected to a feed-box 18 having an inlet 20. A deflector 25 is connected to deflectors 24 and is concentric with the drum. In using the apparatus, a magnetite and slurry-containing liquid to be treated passes on to the drum from the channel 17. Most of the magnetite particles are carried by the drum to pass over the weir 21 in the direction 23 and are collected. The remaining material is slightly stirred as it travels from the deflectors 24 to the deflector 25 and separation of the remaining magnetic particles is assisted.
