Abstract

1,015,683. Centrifugal separators. ALPINE A.G. MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI. July 6, 1962 [July 12, 1961], No. 25937/62. Heading B2P. In a classifier comprising a rotary separator wheel 13, Fig. 2, through which granular material in a flow medium 19 is fed from the periphery of the wheel towards its centre against the opposing action of centrifugal force, the passage of unseparated material, through the clearance 12 between the wheel 13 and the classifier housing 16, directly into the fine material discharging from the wheel is limited by means of blades 11a, Fig. 3, mounted on that face of the wheel adjacent the clearance 12 and defining with the opposite wall 14 of the housing a separating chamber 11 through which medium 20 carrying the unseparated material flows radially inwardly, construction being such that only granular material having a fineness equal to or lower than that discharging from the wheel will overcome the centrifugal force set up by the blades 11a and pass through the clearance 12. Flow through the chamber 11 is kept to a minimum by selection of the clearance 12. The blades 11a may be spirally shaped and bent backwards. The wall 14 is formed with two elbows 15 to prevent entrainment of coarse material in the boundary layer of the flow medium passing along it. Stationary members 18 are mounted around the wheel for feeding the granular material and for removing the coarse material separated by centrifugal force from the wheel. The separating chamber 17 in the wheel 13 is fitted with blades.
