Abstract

An apparatus for separating metallic substances from moving non-metallic material comprises at least two side by side shafts 2, 2<SP>1</SP> having a common inlet 1 into which a batch of the material may be tipped, each shaft having a coil 3, 4,wound therearound, and the coils which are at different heights and spaced by at least the width of a coil being connected in opposition in the circuit of an H.F. oscillator. The oscillator output is applied to control a deflector at the bottom of the shafts through an amplifier which includes components for effecting the necessary delay to allow for passage from coil to deflector. The two coil arrangement balances out induced voltages, and any electrical effects arising from the material itself.
