Abstract

Organic materials liable to deterioration through peroxide formation are preserved by adding or applying thereto N-aminoethyl piperazine, triethylene tetramine or a metal chelate thereof. A specific chelate compound which is mentioned is ferric hydroxide triethylene tetramine. The antioxidants are effective in preventing the perishing of rubber.ALSO:Organic materials liable to deterioration through peroxide formation are preserved by adding or applying thereto N-aminoethyl piperazine, triethylene tetramine or a metal chelate thereof. A specific chelate compound which is mentioned is ferric hydroxide triethylene tetramine. The deterioration may be (1) rancidification of edible vegetable oils, (2) deterioration of volatile oils or solvents, including those used in perfumery, (3) deterioration of mineral lubricating oils, (4) excessive drying and chalking of paints, (5) perishing of rubber, (6) degradation of synthetic plastics, (7) fading of dyes, (8) rotting of textiles, (9) deteriorating of leather, (10( deterioration of paper or (11) metabolic disorder in living organisms involving abnormal peroxide formation. In the examples, (a) one drop of N-aminoethyl piperazine is added to 2 litres of diethyl ether and (b) a sheet of white typing paper is dipped into a solution (consisting of 2 drops of N-aminoethyl piperazine in 1 litre of water) and then allowed to dry. According to the Provisional Specification, the organic materials, to which the antioxidant may be added, include liquid fuels such as petrol (wherein the additive acts as an antiknock agent), and spermatazoa for use in artificial insemination.ALSO:Organic materials liable to deterioration through peroxide formation are preserved by adding or applying thereto N-aminoethyl piperazine, triethylene tetramine or a metal chelate thereof.
