Abstract

In a process of coating metal surfaces with a phosphate layer containing zinc, an aqueous paste containing 20/50% by weight of zinc oxide or zinc carbonate is metered into the phosphate coating solution. The paste may also include other water-insoluble additives such as barium carbonate, calcium carbonate, gums, starch and cellulose ethers, and may be metered directly into phosphating baths or into circulating solutions in spray processes using conventional apparatus such as a gear pump, reciprocating pump or a stirred pressure pot.
