Abstract

An aqueous 10-33% sodium hydroxide solution used for making alkali cellulose for viscose contains an amount of alkali metal glucoheptonate sufficient to sequester any traces of iron present in the solution. Sodium glucoheptonate is preferably used in a concentration of 0,01-10%.ALSO:A rust-removing composition consists of a 10-33% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide containing an amount of a soluble alkali metal glucoheptonate sufficient to sequester the ferric hydroxide obtainable from the rust. Sodium glucoheptonate is preferably used in a concentration of 0.01-10%.
