Abstract

Dehydrogenation or dehydrocylisation of feedstocks comprising non-aromatic hydrocarbons, to give increased aromatic content, is effected by contact at 450 DEG C.-580 DEG C. with a catalyst comprising chromium oxide or a support, preferably alumina, minor properties (with respect to the chromium oxide) of Be, or alkali metal (preferably K) and, optionally, Co or Ni. Preferably the process is effected at not more than 50 p.s.i.g., without either recycle of hydrogen or addition of extraneous hydrogen, and the LHSV is 0,1-1,0. The feedstock may have a major proportion thereof boiling below 100 DEG C., e.g. a straight run gasoline having an end boiling point of about 80 DEG C.-120 DEG C., or the feedstock may be a catalytic (e.g. platinum) reformate such as a platinum reformate having an end boiling point below 125 DEG C, or the raffinate from a solvent extraction of the reformate.ALSO:A dehydrogenation catalyst comprises chromium oxide on a support, preferably alumina, and minor proportions (with respect to the chromium oxide) of Be, an alkali metal (preferably K) and, optionally, Co and Ni.
