Abstract

857,288. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. WALMSLEYS (BURY) Ltd. Dec. 6, 1957 [Dec. 6, 1956], No. 37256/56. Class 96. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, one or more rolls 21 having anti-friction bearings and plain or grooved water-repellent surfaces, e.g. of polytetrafluorethylene, are adjustable vertically above the pulp web on the wirecloth 11, e.g. to aid in smoothing the upper surface of the web, to improve the drainage of the pulp, to act as a slice at or near the flowbox, or to air in the application of further layers of pulp or of solutions, or clay suspensions &c. to a web on the wire. A roll 21 may be above table rolls 14 or above a suction-box and may be supported from arms 57 pivoted at 58, fine adjustment being provided by screws 61 &c. and coarse adjustment by uprights 65 with sliding housings &c. 64. An inspection platform 67 may be provided. The roll 21 may be shaken.
