Abstract
863,452. Couching webs from paper-making machines. DORRIES A.G., O. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 41719/59. Class 96. The web S is couched from the wire-cloth 21 of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine to an upper felt 4 of a wet press with the aid of a pickup roll 9 mounted on a support 3 which is pivoted at 2 and which can be turned by hydraulic cylinders 28 so that a roll 12 can act as an upper couch roll, in which case the felt 4 is moved upwardly out of the pick-up position, and the web S placed by hand on to the lower felt 26 of the wet press. The roll 12 is moved pneumatically at 11 to swing about a shaft 13. The roll 9 has screw adjustment at 5. The assembly is supported from lever arms pivoted at 19 and is moved by hydraulic cylinders 17 to facilitate change of position of the rolls 9 and 12, a stop 20 being fitted. The couch roll 23 may be a suction roll and may act as a dandy roll. In a modification, the screw adjustment 5 is turned by bevel gear-wheels and a hand spindle, and an electric motor and worm drive are used instead of the hydraulic cylinders 28.
