  • Anti-Oxidant Or Stabilizer Compositions (AREA)

Abstract

An aqueous medium for use in a heat exchange system, contains a water-soluble neutral inorganic or organic nitrogen base salt of a carboxylic acid having from four to ten carbon atoms, a water-soluble inorganic or organic ammonium base nitrite or metallonitrite, and a water-soluble non-aromatic amine. The medium may contain a freezing point depressant such as glycol or glycerol. The carboxylic acid salt may be sodium benzoate, lithium benzoate, ammonium benzoate, sodium cinnamate, sodium m- or p-nitrocinnamate, sodium anthranilate, disodium succinate, disodium adipate, disodium azelate, disodium sebacate, disodium malate, sodium salicylate, morpholinium benzoate, triethanolamine benzoate, triethylene tetramine dibenzoate or tetrabenzoate. The nitrite may be sodium nitrite, sodium cobaltinitire, morpholinium nitrite, or dicyclohexylammonium nitrite. The amine may be mono-, di- or triethanolamine, ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, lupetidine, piperazine, diethylaminoethanol, pyridine, picoline, lutidine or collidine. The composition may contain 0.3 to 5% by weight of the carboxylic acid salt, 0.3 to 1% by weight of the nitrite, and 0.01 to 0.3% by weight of the amine. The composition may also contain a chromate, such as sodium chromate. Examples of compositions are given. Specification 856,923 is referred to.
