Abstract
1,243,081. Heat transfer fluids; anti-freezes, DOW CHEMICAL CO. 27 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept:, 1967],.No. 46055/68. Heading C4X. [Also in Division C7] A corrosion-inhibiting composition comprises 60%. to 95% by weight of piperazine, an alkylpiperazine wherein the alkyl group contains up to 8 carbon atoms or an aminoalkylpiperazine wherein the alkyl group contains to 8 carbon atoms, 1% to 20% by weight of benzotriazole and 1% to 20% by weight of an alkali metal nitrite. From 0-5% to 3À0% of the composition may be added to methoxypropanol to be used as a heat-transfer medium or (diluted with water) as an automotive antifreeze. Suitable substituted piperazines include 2-methyl, N-butyl, N-(2-aminoethyl) and N- (3-aminopropyl)-piperazines; suitable nitrites are sodium and potassium nitrites.
