Abstract

A corrosion inhibitor for a heat transfer liquid comprises a mixture of 0.01 to 5.0% by weight benzotriazole or methylbenzotriazole and 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of an alkali metal, ammonium, amine or alkanolamine salt of a saturated dicarboxylic acid having from 6 to 30 carbon atoms per molecule. Borax may be added in an amount from 0.1 to 10% by weight. The dicarboxylic acid may be adipic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic or 1 : 12-dodecanedioic acids. The salt may be added to the benzotriazole or the dicarboxylic acid and the base may be added separately so as to form the salt. When an aqueous base is used the pH is between 6.5 and 8.5. An organic solvent, e.g. methyl or ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, glycerol or other aliphatic alcohol may be used.ALSO:A corrosion inhibitor comprises a mixture of 0.01-5.0% by weight benzotriazole or methylbenzotriazole and 0.1-5.0% by weight of an alkali metal, ammonium, amine or alkanolamine salt of a saturated dicarboxylic acid having from 6-30 carbon atoms per molecule. Borax may be added in an amount from 0.1-10% by weight. The dicarboxylic acid may be adipic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic or 1:12 dodecanedioic acids. The salt may be added to the benzotriazole or the dicarboxylic acid and the base may be added separately so as to form the salt. When an aqueous base is used the pH is between 6.5 and 8.5. An organic solvent, e.g. methyl or ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, glycerol or other aliphatic alcohol may be used.
