Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0847205/IV(b)/1> wherein R1 represents hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl (optionally substituted by nitro groups) or aralkyl and R2 represents a carbamoyl, a carboxy or, except when R1 represents hydrogen, a carbalkoxy group, and acid addition salts of such compounds, e.g. with hydrohalic, sulphuric, oxalic, picric and arylsulphonic acids. The above compounds, and also compounds in which R1 is hydrogen and R2 is carbalkoxy, are prepared by reacting compounds of the formula :-CH(R1)= C(R2)Br or C(R1)Br=C(R2)Br with liquid ammonia, if desired in presence of a polymerization inhibitor. A mixture of isochloro-serine ethyl ester hydrochloride and chloro-serine ethyl ester hydrochloride is obtained by adding 2-ethoxy carbonyl-ethyleneimine to cold 38% hydrochloric acid.
