Abstract

1317741 Imidazoline derivatives POLSKA AKADEMIA NAUK INSTYTUT CHEMII FIZYCZNEJ and POLSKA AKADEMIA NAUK INSTYTUT CHEMII ORGANICZNEJ 19 June 1970 [1 July 1969 20 Jan 1970] 29772/70 Heading C2C An imidazoline derivative is prepared by condensing a fatty acid with ethylenediamine or a polyethyleneamine in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine while heating. The fatty acid is suitably a waste product formed during the production of margarine and the amine is suitably of the formula wherein n is an integer of from 7 to 15. The hexamethylenetetramine is preferably present in an amount such that it reacts with all the water formed during the condensation reaction. Examples describe the reaction between ethylenediamine and a mixture of fatty acids, diethylenetriamine and oleic acid, and between a mixture of polyethylene polyamines (av. molecular weight 490) and a mixture of fatty acids. The imidazoline derivatives may be used as corrosion inhibitors.
