1475163 Cyano alka-dienes, -trienes and -tetraenes BASF AG 23 Aug 1974 [25 Aug 1973] 37053/74 Heading C2C Novel nitriles of the Formula I wherein m and n are 0 or 1, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> are C 1-3 alkyl groups, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are hydrogen atoms or C 1-3 alkyl groups and R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are hydrogen atoms or together form an additional bond, are obtained from compounds of the Formula II by reacting them with (a) cyanomethylphosphonic acid esters in the presence of strong bases at 0‹ to 50‹ C., or (b) cyanoacetic acid at 80‹ to 120‹ C. in the presence of organic amines, their salts with mineral acids or organic carboxylic acids, or ammonium salts. The compounds may be used as constituents of scent compositions.
